Kala Fejzo is a sophomore at UC Berkeley this year studying Nutritional Science. Originally from Los Angeles, California, Kala has always been passionate about food, but only truly began cultivating her passion into something meaningful when she joined Hillel at UC Berkeley. Kala currently works as a food intern in the Hillel kitchen, spending every Friday cooking up Shabbat dinners for the Jewish student community.
“I love working at Hillel because I love cooking and at home, I would always cook in my free time. It’s been super fun to have a kitchen here in Berkeley where I can cook in. It’s also such a good work environment because we blast music, dance, and just generally have a fun time,” Kala said.
Aside from her involvement in Hillel, Kala also runs her own earring shop through Instagram, @kalasearringshop, where she handcrafts pairs of earrings with fruitful, unique designs. According to Kala, she was inspired to start her earring account after being dissatisfied with the mainstream earring styles she found in stores.
“I started my earrings account because I got a bunch of piercings my senior year of high school and I always found myself wanting to switch up my piercings. I asked my parents to get me earring-making supplies, and then I ended up loving making them and decided to create my own Instagram shop. I love making new earrings and I get a lot of my inspiration from Pinterest and Etsy,” Kala said.
